Carrollton has a unique feature of being divided to be part of the Dallas County, Denton County and the Collin County. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 109,576 and is estimated to reach 119,250 by the year 2010. It embodies a land area of 94.9 square kilometers. Majority of Carrollton students are from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District. Others from the south go to the Dallas Independent School District and the Lewisville Independent School District hosts student from the north of Carrollton. It was believed by most local historians that the city got its name from the early settlers of the city who came from Carrollton, Illinois although other stories of its origin are told.

Carrollton, Texas is considered part of North Dallas, as it is a Dallas suburb in Dallas County. Located between I-635, George Bush, the North Dallas Tollway and I-35 only adds to the city’s appeal. Parts of Carrollton are divided among Dallas County, Denton County and the Collin County. The population of Carrollton is estimated to be at 119,250 by the year 2010.
